  • Be flexible. No matter what kind of trip you're contemplating, there are almost always less expensive or higher-value options available. With all of the complexities of airfares and the staggering varierty of car, room and vacation types and rates, your ability to adjust your plans could mean significant savings.

For example, many of today's best airfares are off-peak fares that are only valid for travel in the middle part of the week (usually Monday noon through Thursday noon). By adjusting your dates a day or two, you could save a lot of money!
  • Get educated. Here's where your travel agent really comes in handy. It's amazing how many things today's traveler has to think about and be prepared for. This is especially true for visits outside the U.S.

It pays to do a little research to make sure you hold the proper documentation (passport, visa), that you are aware of any traveler advisories, and to ensure that your trip is as safe and comfortable as possible.

It also pays to be aware of cultural differences in other countries. Think about getting a destination report from your Davidson Travel agent, or maybe buying a travel book from your bookstore. Sensitivity to local customs can make a big difference in the quality of your experience there.
  • When trying to save money on airfare, think about airline consolidators. Davidson Travel works with a select group of consolidators, each with a strong record of reliability.

Consolidators contract with the airlines to purchase seats that would otherwise probably not be filled. For this reason they are usually able to secure fares that are significantly lower than published airfares. These savings are then passed on to the purchaser...you.

The most significant savings are to be found for international itineraries, however certain domestic trips also qualify for savings through consolidators.
  • Take care of yourself. We want you to have a great time, and to feel good on your vacation or business trip! When flying, be sure to drink plenty of water and take it easy on the alcohol. Air travel is amazingly dehydrating.

Make a little time for some exercise, even just a short walk each day. Exercise helps regulate your system, promotes a good night's sleep, and helps fight weight gain from all the terrific food you've been trying. Of course if you don't exercise now, you'll need to check with your physician before starting.

Every time we visit a sunny destination, we're amazed at the number of pale-skinned vacationers that have started their dream trip by getting a nasty sunburn. As good as the sun feels, you don't want to lose any of your precious vacation nursing a sunburn. Use sunscreen. Spend the middle part of the day in the shade. You'll be glad you did.
  • Trying to catch a cab after the theatre in London? So are hundreds of other theatre goers. Try walking up the street, away from the flow of people to flag a cab before they arrive at the theatre's curb. At this late hour, cabs are sometime reluctant to pick people up, and if you're competing with the hoardes you could end up walking (not a good idea at midnight).
